Reversing Valve · Defrost · Refrigerant · Compressor
Same-day diagnostic and repair on every residential heat pump — single-speed, two-stage, and variable-speed inverter systems.
Heat pumps fail differently than gas furnaces. A reversing valve stuck in cooling mode, a failed defrost board, a low refrigerant charge from a slow leak, or a contactor that won't pull in — each one has its own diagnostic signature. Tech On Call runs EPA Section 608 Universal–certified techs who diagnose heat pump faults the right way, with manifold gauges and proper subcooling/superheat measurement.
The most common no-heat call on a heat pump is "blowing cool air in heat mode." That's usually a stuck reversing valve, a failed reversing valve solenoid, or a thermostat wired wrong (O vs B terminal — heat pumps use O, conventional systems use B). Defrost board failures show up as ice buildup on the outdoor coil that never clears. Low refrigerant cuts heating capacity dramatically because heat pumps are even more sensitive to charge than AC.
If the compressor is failing or refrigerant charge has dropped repeatedly from a slow leak, we'll quote heat pump replacement honestly alongside the repair. New heat pump installs qualify for IRA Section 25C tax credits and California rebates. See also heat pump maintenance to keep the system out of repair.
No Heat (Reversing Valve)
Cool air in heat mode. Stuck reversing valve, failed solenoid, or thermostat wired wrong.
Outdoor Coil Icing
Defrost board failure or sensor fault. Ice that never clears kills heat output.
Low Heating Capacity
Slow refrigerant leak — heat pumps are very sensitive to charge. We leak-detect, repair, recharge.
Compressor Won't Start
Hard-start kit weak, capacitor swelled, or compressor windings shorted. Test before replacing.
Tripping Breaker
Compressor short, contactor stuck, or wiring shorted. Isolate before more damage.
Aux Heat Won't Engage
Backup electric heat strips not coming on in cold weather. Sequencer or relay failure.

After-HoursEmergency Repair
Split Heat Pumps
Outdoor condenser + indoor air handler — the most common residential heat pump.
Ductless Mini-Splits
Single-zone and multi-zone inverter heat pumps.
Package Heat Pumps
All-in-one rooftop heat pumps.
Cold-Climate Heat Pumps
Inverter-driven cold-climate units that maintain capacity at low ambient.
Call & Schedule
A real dispatcher answers — no phone tree. Same-day or next-morning ETA confirmed, and we text the tech's name and photo before arrival.
On-Site Diagnostic
Flat-rate diagnostic. Tech inspects burners, heat exchanger, ignitor, gas pressure, blower motor, and combustion — then explains what's failing in plain English.
Written Quote
You see the repair (or replacement) price before any work starts. Diagnostic fee credits toward the repair when you proceed.
Repair Or Install
Most repairs are completed same-visit — we stock ignitors, flame sensors, gas valves, capacitors, and blower motors on the truck. Larger jobs scheduled within 24–48 hours.
Test & Document
We verify supply temps, gas pressure, combustion, and CO levels. You get a written invoice with everything we did, parts used, and warranty terms.

Why is my heat pump blowing cool air in heat mode?
Almost always a stuck reversing valve, failed reversing valve solenoid, or a thermostat wired to the wrong terminal (heat pumps use O for reversing valve).
Why is my outdoor coil iced over?
Defrost board or defrost sensor failure. The unit should periodically reverse to defrost — when that cycle fails, ice builds and kills heating output.
How much does heat pump repair cost?
$89 flat-rate diagnostic credited to repair. Most repairs $250–$900. Compressor replacement $1,800–$3,500.
Should I repair or replace?
Compressor failures and repeated refrigerant leaks usually mean replacement is the better call. See heat pump replacement.
What cities do you serve for heating repair?
Every city in Riverside and San Bernardino County — Riverside, San Bernardino, Fontana, Rancho Cucamonga, Ontario, Corona, Moreno Valley, Temecula, Murrieta, Redlands, Hesperia, Victorville, and the Coachella Valley. Cold-snap nights in Hesperia, Victorville, and Yucaipa drive the most no-heat calls — we triage those first.
Do you warranty heating work?
Every repair carries a workmanship warranty. New furnace and heat pump installs are registered with the manufacturer — most ship a 10-year parts warranty when registered within 60 days, and we handle that paperwork for you.
Do you offer financing on furnace replacement?
Yes — financing is available on qualifying furnace and heat pump installs. We'll walk through monthly payment options and California rebate eligibility (SoCalGas, SCE, federal IRA tax credits) before you commit.
