Install, repair, and maintain central split-system AC across the Inland Empire — every major brand, every refrigerant, every size. Same-day service.
The central split system is the workhorse of Inland Empire residential cooling. Outdoor condenser, indoor evaporator coil mounted on top of a gas furnace (or a dedicated air handler in all-electric homes), copper refrigerant line set running between them, smart thermostat on the wall — it's the configuration in most homes built in Fontana, Rancho Cucamonga, San Bernardino, Riverside, Corona, Ontario, and Redlands over the last 30 years. Tech On Call installs, repairs, and maintains every major split-system brand across both Inland Empire counties: Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, York, Rheem, Bryant, American Standard, and Amana.
Split systems fail in predictable patterns. The most common failure is a refrigerant leak — copper line sets, brazed joints, or evaporator coils develop pinhole leaks over 8–12 years that drop the system charge, ice the coil, and stress the compressor. Failed capacitors are the second-most-common call (cheap fix, $250–$400 same visit). Compressor failure is the big-ticket end-of-life issue — by year 12 in mild Inland Empire climates or year 10 in Coachella Valley and High Desert summer heat. We diagnose every failure with manifold gauges, micron measurement on vacuum, and amp draw verification — not eyeballed guesses.
Replacement is where split-system installs make or break the next 15 years. The new SEER2 minimums (14.3 SEER2 for the Southwest region) make every new install more efficient than the old one, but only if the install is done right — Manual J load calc, matched condenser + coil, brazed line set, deep vacuum to 500 microns, pressure test, properly weighed-in refrigerant charge. We do every install that way. See installation for the full process, or AC repair for same-day diagnostic on every brand.
Refrigerant Leaks
Most common split-system failure — copper line set leaks slowly, system loses charge, evaporator freezes. We leak-detect and properly repair.
Failed Capacitor
Outdoor unit hums but fan doesn't spin. Capacitor replacement is a same-day fix and one of the cheapest repairs we do.
Cooked Compressor
After 12+ years of Inland Empire summers, compressors lock up. Often signals it's time to replace the whole system.
Frozen Evaporator
Dirty filter, weak airflow, or low refrigerant ices over the indoor coil. We thaw, clean, and fix the root cause.
Mismatched Indoor/Outdoor
Previous tech replaced only the condenser? Mismatched systems cap efficiency and void warranty. We quote a matched system honestly.
Bad Thermostat Or Wiring
Smart thermostat won't communicate, stages stuck, fan won't run. We diagnose Nest, Ecobee, Honeywell, and OEM wiring.
Aging R-22 System
R-22 systems past year 12 are usually beyond the smart-repair window — refrigerant cost and phaseout make replacement smarter.
Weak Cooling
Low refrigerant, dirty coils, restricted ductwork, or undersized equipment — we measure and tell you which it actually is.
Turn-KeySplit System Installation
Same-DaySplit System Repair
Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman — and every other split-system brand sold in California.
AC-Only Split
Outdoor condenser + indoor evaporator coil on top of an existing gas furnace. The classic IE setup.
Heat Pump Split
Same outdoor unit cools and heats — rebate eligible and all-electric.
Air Handler Split
Outdoor condenser + indoor air handler (no furnace) — common in all-electric homes and ADUs.
Multi-Zone Split
Single outdoor condenser feeding two or more indoor units with zoning dampers — for larger homes.
Variable-Speed Inverter
Top-efficiency split systems with variable-speed compressors — best for desert summer constant-running.
R-410A → R-454B
Modern refrigerant transition — we install the new low-GWP refrigerants on every new system.
Call & Schedule
A real dispatcher answers — no phone tree. We confirm same-day or next-morning ETA and text the tech's name and photo before arrival.
On-Site Diagnostic
Flat-rate, no-surprise diagnostic. Tech checks refrigerant pressures, electrical, airflow, and controls — then explains what's failing in plain English.
Written Quote
You see the repair (or replacement) price before any work starts. Diagnostic fee credits toward the repair when you proceed.
Repair Or Install
Most repairs are completed same-visit — we stock capacitors, contactors, motors, and refrigerant on the truck. Larger jobs are scheduled within 24–48 hours.
Test & Document
We verify supply temps, refrigerant subcooling/superheat, and amp draw. You get a written invoice with everything we did, parts used, and warranty terms.

What's a split system AC?
Outdoor condenser + indoor evaporator coil or air handler, connected by a copper refrigerant line set. The most common residential AC configuration.
How much does a split system AC cost installed?
Standard SEER2 installs $7,500–$14,000; variable-speed inverter systems $12,000–$18,000+. Quoted in-home with Manual J load calc included.
Split system vs package unit?
Split systems win on serviceability and brand selection in most two-story homes. Package units win on simplicity for single-story ranches and manufactured homes built for them.
Can I replace just the outdoor condenser?
Sometimes — but matched systems perform best and qualify for full manufacturer warranty. Mismatched systems cap efficiency and shorten compressor life. We quote both options honestly.
How long do split systems last?
15–20 years with annual maintenance in mild Inland Empire climates; 12–15 in Coachella Valley and the High Desert without regular service.
What SEER2 should I install?
14.3 SEER2 is regional minimum. 15.2–18 SEER2 is the sweet spot for most Inland Empire homes. Variable-speed inverter at 18–22 SEER2 pays back fastest in desert climates that run constantly.
What refrigerant do you install?
R-454B and R-32 on new installs (low-GWP); R-410A still serviced. R-22 systems we'll quote replacement honestly — see AC replacement.
Do you do heat-pump split systems?
Yes. Heat-pump splits are eligible for federal IRA tax credits and California utility rebates — see heat pumps.
What cities in the Inland Empire do you serve?
Every city in Riverside and San Bernardino County — Riverside, San Bernardino, Fontana, Rancho Cucamonga, Ontario, Corona, Moreno Valley, Temecula, Murrieta, Redlands, Hesperia, Victorville, and the Coachella Valley. See the full service-area list at the bottom of this page.
Do you warranty your work?
Every repair carries a workmanship warranty, and we register manufacturer warranties on every install. Most major equipment ships with a 10-year parts warranty when registered within 60 days — we handle that paperwork for you.
Do you offer financing?
Yes — financing is available on qualifying installs and replacements. We'll walk through monthly payment options before you commit to anything.
