Heat Pump Installation & Repair Across The Inland Empire

A heat pump is the single most efficient way to condition an Inland Empire home year-round. The same outdoor unit that cools your house in 110°F Fontana summer reverses to heat it during a 35°F Riverside January morning — typically 2–4× more efficient than electric resistance or gas heat. Tech On Call installs, repairs, and maintains air-source and ductless heat pumps across Riverside and San Bernardino County, from standard 14.3 SEER2 air-source systems up to 22+ SEER2 variable-speed inverter models that pay back fastest in constant-run desert climates like Coachella Valley and the High Desert.

The economics shifted hard toward heat pumps in 2022. Federal IRA Section 25C now offers a tax credit up to $2,000 on qualifying heat-pump installs. SCE and SoCalGas run additional utility rebates, and California TECH Clean California stacks more for qualifying low-and-moderate-income households. Combined, rebates and credits can cut $3,000–$8,000+ off a heat pump install. We handle every piece of paperwork — IRS Form 5695 for the federal credit, utility rebate applications, and the documentation HERS raters need for Title 24 compliance.

Heat pumps repair differently than AC. The reversing valve, defrost board, and outdoor sensors are unique to heat-pump systems and need a tech who's diagnosed them before. Tech On Call's EPA 608 Universal–certified techs work on every major heat-pump brand — Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Bosch, Mitsubishi, Daikin, Fujitsu. For ductless heat-pump installs see mini-splits, and if you're deciding between heat-pump conversion and like-for-like AC replacement, we'll quote both side-by-side.

Why A Heat Pump

One System That Does It All

Diagnose · Repair · Restore
01

Big Rebates Available

California utility rebates plus federal IRA tax credits can cut $3,000–$8,000+ off a qualifying heat pump install.

02

Most Efficient Option

Heat pumps move heat instead of generating it — typically 2–4x more efficient than electric or gas heating.

03

All-Electric Future-Proof

Gas service costs and restrictions are climbing. All-electric homes are simpler, cleaner, and align with California's grid direction.

04

Mild IE Winters = Ideal

Inland Empire winters rarely drop below freezing — exactly where heat pumps perform best.

05

Federal Tax Credit

Section 25C credits up to $2,000 on qualifying installs, in addition to utility rebates. We handle the paperwork.

06

Solar-Pairing Ready

All-electric heat pumps pair perfectly with rooftop solar — turn sunshine into both cooling and heating.

07

One System, One Service Call

Stop maintaining two systems. One heat pump replaces both your AC and furnace — half the equipment, half the failure points.

08

Variable-Speed Comfort

Inverter heat pumps modulate output instead of cycling on/off — quieter, more even temps, better humidity control.

Heat Pump Types

Every Heat Pump System

01

Central Air-Source

Traditional split-system heat pump — outdoor condenser + indoor air handler. The most common Inland Empire install.

02

Ductless Heat Pumps

Mini-split heat pumps for additions, ADUs, and homes without ductwork — single-zone or multi-zone.

03

Gas-To-Heat-Pump Conversion

Swap an aging furnace + AC for a single heat pump — capture every available rebate.

04

Variable-Speed Inverter

Top-tier efficiency for homes that run the system constantly during desert summers.

05

Solar-Pairing Ready

All-electric heat pumps pair perfectly with rooftop solar — turn sunshine into cooling.

06

Dual-Fuel Hybrid

Heat pump for most of the year + backup gas furnace for the rare deep cold — best of both worlds.

Installation Process

How A Heat Pump Install Runs

  1. 01

    Dual-Mode Load Calc

Manual J load calculation for both cooling and heating loads. A heat pump must be sized for the larger of the two — usually cooling in the Inland Empire, but we check both.

  2. 02

    Equipment Match & Rebate Eligibility

Good/better/best options across major brands, with rebate eligibility confirmed up front. Federal Section 25C credit, SCE/SoCalGas rebates, and TECH Clean California programs identified.

  3. 03

    Electrical Capacity Check

Heat pumps draw more amps than a traditional AC + gas furnace combo. We verify panel capacity and quote any required panel or breaker upgrade before install.

  4. 04

    Permit & HERS Coordination

California Title 24 permit pulled. HERS rater coordinated for the heat-pump performance verification required by code.

  5. 05

    Brazed Line Set, Deep Vacuum

Every refrigerant joint brazed under nitrogen purge. System pulled to 500 microns and pressure-tested before charging.

  6. 06

    Commissioning, Both Modes

Cooling startup and heating startup both documented — supply temps, refrigerant subcooling/superheat, defrost cycle verified, auxiliary heat strips tested.

  7. 07

    Rebate Paperwork Filed

We submit utility rebate applications and provide the documentation you need for IRS Form 5695 (federal tax credit). Rebates land in your account, not ours.

Heat Pump FAQ

Heat Pump Questions

01

How much does a heat pump cost installed?

Air-source installs $10,000–$18,000; variable-speed inverter $14,000–$22,000+; ductless $4,500–$22,000+ depending on heads. After rebates and federal tax credits, net cost typically $3,000–$8,000 lower.

02

Will a heat pump cool as well as a regular AC?

Yes — in cooling mode a heat pump is exactly the same as a SEER2 air conditioner. The difference is it also heats.

03

Do heat pumps work in cold weather?

Modern cold-climate heat pumps work efficiently down to 5°F — far colder than the Inland Empire ever gets. Auxiliary heat strips handle any extreme.

04

What heat pump rebates can I claim?

Federal IRA Section 25C tax credit up to $2,000. California utility rebates (SCE, SoCalGas) layer on top. TECH Clean California offers more for qualifying low-and-moderate-income households. We provide all paperwork.

05

Heat pump vs furnace + AC — which is better?

If both your AC and furnace are aging, heat pump usually wins — one system, half the equipment, biggest rebates. If only one is failing and the other has years of life, like-for-like replacement may be smarter. We quote both honestly.

06

Will my electric bill go up?

In cooling mode, no — same efficiency as a SEER2 AC. In heating mode, electric bills go up while gas bills go to zero. Total energy cost typically drops in mild Inland Empire winters.

07

Should I switch from gas to a heat pump?

Often yes, especially if both are aging. Heat pumps qualify for the largest rebates and unify cooling + heating in one system. See AC replacement for side-by-side math.

08

Do you do ductless heat pumps?

Yes. Ductless heat-pump mini-splits are ideal for additions, ADUs, and zoned whole-home retrofits — see mini-splits.

09

What cities in the Inland Empire do you serve?

Every city in Riverside and San Bernardino County — Riverside, San Bernardino, Fontana, Rancho Cucamonga, Ontario, Corona, Moreno Valley, Temecula, Murrieta, Redlands, Hesperia, Victorville, and the Coachella Valley. See the full service-area list at the bottom of this page.

10

Do you warranty your work?

Every repair carries a workmanship warranty, and we register manufacturer warranties on every install. Most major equipment ships with a 10-year parts warranty when registered within 60 days — we handle that paperwork for you.

11

Do you offer financing?

Yes — financing is available on qualifying installs and replacements. We'll walk through monthly payment options before you commit to anything.
